    Ever thought about food that starts with Y, we’ve compiled a list of foods that begins with Y.

    Food That Starts With Y

    Yellow Yams

    Yellow yams, just like plantains are common in Haitian and Jamaican recipes food recipes, are eaten almost daily.

    Yeast

    Yeast is a common ingredient when it comes to baking bread. Yeasts is a single-celled microorganisms that is associated with fungus. Yeast also serves as a leavening agent.

    Yeast comes in various forms such as active dry, which requires dissolving in a warm liquid to activate it. Fresh, which is sold in compressed or cake form.

    Instant yeast, which is what most of us will find at the local grocery stores.

    Yogurt 

    Yogurt is sometimes referred to as yoghurt, yogourt or yoghourt depending on the region, is a food formed by bacterial fermentation of milk, this is also known as good bacteria. Studies show that yogurt can strengthen the immune system, may increase the blood flow through the heart, and may also fight Osteoporosis.

    Yellow Moong Dal

    In English, this is known as lentils. Moong dal is famously used in Indian cuisine.

    Yellow Beans

    Also known as wax beans. Yellow Wax beans have a pale color, with a translucent yellow flesh that sticks tightly to its petit lime green peas from the inside.

    Yellow Eye Beans

    If you’ve never heard of yellow eye beans before, no worries, you are not alone. We did the research for you. These beans are related to kidney beans. They have an ivory color, with small colored marks near the ‘eye’ on the inner seam of the bean. They have an oval shape with a light sweet flavor. They also contain a large amount of calcium. 

    Yakhni

    Yakhni is an Indian dish which actually means stock of any meat. There are many ways to cook this dish and varies per region. 

    Yuzu

    A citrus fruit and plant that is found in the family of Rutacea. I tis cultivated in mainly in East Asia.

    Yellow Cornmeal 

    Yellow Cornmeal can be used for cornbread.

    In the Caribbean, particularly in Haitian food recipes, yellow corn meal is used to create a meal called Mais Moulin.

    Yorkshire Pudding

    This so ever famous dish comes in many ways and form in England. To make this pudding, all is needed are flour, eggs, whole milk, and salt. 

    Yemas

    Yemas is the English name for “egg yolks”.

    Yolks

    yolks contain vitamins A, D, E and K as well as omega-3 fats

    Egg yolk is from the eggs that the animals produce. The primary purpose of the yolk is to provide food for the development of the embryo.

    Egg yolks also has amino acids to help prevent heart diseases.

    Yakhnet Batata

    Yakhnet Batata is a delicious Lebanese potato stew. 

    Yakhnet Sabanikh 

    Yakhnet Sabanikh is a delicious Lebanese spinach stew

    Yardlong Beans

    Known as the asparagus beans in legume, which is cultivated for its edible green pods. It taste like green beans. It is also known as pea bean, long-podded cowpea, Chinese long bean, snake bean, Body, and Bora.

    Yuca (Cassava)

    Yuca is well known in Haitian food recipes and as well as in the Caribbean, including parts of Latin America.

    With just a small amount of olive oil, you can have these ultra-crispy fries in minutes! 

    Yassa 

    Yassa is a spicy, marinated fish or poultry dish that’s prepared with onions and lemon. Often serve with or prepared with peanut or olive oil, herbs, and green seedless olives to name a few.
