For a nutrient-dense meal that feels a little indulgent, this Air Fryer Spaghetti Squash is a low-effort option that’s endlessly versatile.

Satisfying and filling yet surprisingly low in calories, Air Fryer Spaghetti Squash is also a great choice if you are looking to cut down or adopt a more low-carb diet.

Using an air fryer cuts down the cooking time of this delicious winter veggie, meaning that a healthy and wholesome meal will be on the table in under 30 minutes.

    Spaghetti Squash

This winter squash earned its unusual name from the fun, spaghetti-like texture that can be achieved by fluffing up the inside of the cooked squash with a fork.

It is rich in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants providing a healthier alternative to carb-heavy pasta and a delicious dish in its own right.

It is usually available all year round, though peak season for spaghetti squash runs from early fall through to the end of winter.

What Should I Serve With Air Fryer Spaghetti Squash?

Spaghetti squash is a hugely versatile vegetable that can be paired with all kinds of toppings and proteins, making it an adaptable dinner option to suit all kinds of tastes (even for the most picky eaters!).

Thanks to its uncanny similarity to pasta, spaghetti squash pairs particularly well with all kinds of traditional pasta sauces, from bolognese to pesto to tomato sauce and meatballs.

It can also be served as a side to any meat or fish of your choice, or it can be enjoyed simply with a sprinkling of parmesan and generous seasoning with salt and pepper.

    How To Store Spaghetti Squash?

If you are only using one half of your spaghetti squash, you can store the cooked leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    • spoon scraping seeds out of squash

Alternatively, you can put it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Can I Cook Spaghetti Squash In A Regular Oven?

Absolutely! While it won’t cook quite as quickly as it would in an air fryer, you can roast spaghetti squash in an oven and achieve the same results.

How To Cook Whole Spaghetti Squash in the Oven or the Air Fryer?

To do so, prep the spaghetti squash in the exact same way as described in this recipe, then put cut-side down on a baking sheet in a preheated 400°F oven.

After 30-40 minutes, your spaghetti squash should be perfectly al-dente, although this will depend on your oven and the size of the squash, so make sure to keep an eye on it.

    • Half spaghetti squash season with salt and pepper and herbs

Why Is My Spaghetti Squash Mushy?

If your spaghetti squash has a mushy texture when you pull it apart then it simply means that you have cooked it too long.

Make sure to adjust your cooking times if you are using a particularly small squash to avoid it coming out too soft.

As different air fryers cook at different speeds, the first time you use this recipe you may like to check your squash after 15 minutes to see if it is fork-tender.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

How to cook spaghetti squash in air fryer?

Prep the spaghetti squash by cleaning and removing the seeds. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Air fry for about 20 minutes.

    How to pick spaghetti squash?

Be sure that the squash fit inside the air fryer basket perfectly. Pick a firm squash without any spots. Look for dry and firm stem. Grab the most vibrant colored one you can find.

    Why air fry spaghetti squash?

Air frying spaghetti squash is so much faster and easier. You will also end up with the exact desired texture as the squash is constant being checked as it cooks.

    Ingredients

    • 2 Lb. Spaghetti squash (1 small squash
    • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
    • ½ teaspoon Kosher salt
    • ½ teaspoon Black pepper optional
    • ¼ Tsp. Paprika smoked paprika is also fine to use
    • 1 Tbsp. Italian Seasoning

    Instructions

    • Wash and pat dry the squash with a cleaned paper towel.
Trim off a thin slice off each end of the squash. Then cut the squash lengthwise (in two halves).
Place one of the halves in the air fryer basket, facing up. Then drizzle or spray with the oil. Evenly sprinkle the salt, pepper, paprika, and Italian seasoning all over the squash.
Half spaghetti squash season with salt and pepper and herbs
    • Cook at 360° F for 10 minutes face down and turn the squash over, and cook face up for 10 minutes, or until a fork can easily fluff up the inside of the squash. Season again (if needed) and repeat the process with the other half.
      Serve and enjoy.

    Notes

If you are having difficulties cutting the squash. Wash the squash first, then microwave it for 5-8 minutes. This will soften the skin. I recommend poking the squash with a knife a few times so it does not burst open in the microwave.
