ABOUT OREO CREAM CHEESE BALLS (TRUFFLES)
There are so many ways to prepare Oreo cookie balls. These Oreo truffles can be covered in whatever dips you like. They are great with coconut flakes as well. You can alter the size as you please. The base of the recipe works for whatever dips you’d like to use to cover the cookies.
HOW DO YOU MAKE OREO BALLS ?
Want to learn how to make Oreo balls? Here’s what you need to do:
Gather the ingredients:
- Oreo cookies
- Cream cheesesoftened
- Melted chocolate
- Decorations / sprinkles (optional)
First, in a food processor: Blend or pulse the Oreos until they form into a sand like texture, or very find crumbs.
Next, add in the cream cheese: Add in the cream cheese. Blend again until well combined. The cookies will begin to harden. Stop when the cookies have formed but do not over process as you do not want it to be mushy. Add more cookies if necessary to give it a sandy like texture.
After, transfer the Oreo cookies into a bowl: Let it sit while you prepare the chocolate.
Use a cookie scoop to scoop out the dough: Roll the dough into the desired size ball. Place the dough on a lined cookie sheet.
When ready to dip: In a medium bowl, add the chocolate and heat in the microwave in accordance to the directions on the package.
Dip the Oreo balls in the chocolate mixture(s) and decorate the top with as desired.
Chill the Oreo truffles for a least 1 hour, or longer if make ahead.
Serve well or package as a gift and enjoy!
HOW TO MAKE OREO BALLS WITHOUT A FOOD PROCESSOR
If you don’t have a food processor, that’s perfectly fine. I have crushed the Oreos using a mortar and pestle. Or you can place the cookies in a zip lock back and use a rolling pin to crush them. I’ve even used a meat tenderizer to crush the cookies. J
HOW DO YOU DIP OREO BALLS?
There are various methods you can use to dip an Oreo ball. You can add the ball directly in the melted chocolate, roll it around with a fork making sure all sides are covered, or place the Oreo on a surface and pour the chocolate over the Oreo ball.
Once the ball is covered, allow the access to drip off, and carefully place the chocolate covered Oreo cream cheese ball to parchment paper to dry.
How to store Oreo Cream Cheese Balls?
Store leftovers in an airtight container. These Oreo cream cheese balls will last in the fridge for at least a week.
Tips for Oreo Balls
- Melting Wafers are best to use when dipping the cookies. However, chocolate chips will work as well. If you use chocolate chips, be sure to follow the steps and instructions on the package, or simply add butter to the chocolate to help thin it out.
- You do not need to use a food processor to make these treats. A stand mixture will also work for this recipe and manually fold in the
soften cream cheese. - These truffles make great make-ahead treats. Be sure to store them in an air tight container to use later.
- You can decorate your Oreo balls with chocolate, candy melts, and you can roll them in coconut flakes, or decorate them with nuts. The possibilities are endless!
