Looking for a simple dinner? It doesn’t get easier than this taco soup with ground turkey. It is rich, it is tasty, it is delicious, it is comforting, and it can be made in less than 30 minutes.

If you are short on time, this is the perfect go to hearty quick meal.  In the fall, this is one of my go to after my children’s activities. It helps them not only stay warm, but also keeps them full and energetic. You really can’t go wrong with this soup.

What to put in this turkey taco soup

There are several other ways to make taco soup. It can be made with ground beef or chicken and with a variety of other ingredients. It is truly a preference. I personally, prefer to make it with ground turkey. Below are the ingredients I used in my taco soup.

    List of ingredients

    • 1 lb. ground turkey
    • 1 can pinto beans
    • 1 can corn
    • ½ cup red onions, chopped
    • 1 tbsp. olive oil
    • 3 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 tomato, chopped
    • 3 tbsp. taco seasoning
    • 1 ½ cup water
    • 1 tsp. cumin
    • 1 tsp. chili powder
    • 1 tbsp. cilantro, chopped
    • 1 tsp. salt, kosher
    • 1 tsp. ground pepper

Why this turkey taco soup recipe works

This recipe works because it is tasty, hearty, and savory. Especially on a beautiful fall day. And did I mention you can make this soup in 30 minutes or less? No need to wait for hours for dinner. The best part, this turkey taco soup can be made with ground turkey or other any protein. And it can easily be paired with tortillas or over rice for a more hearty meal.

And did I mentioned that it is kid friendly. Kid tested and approved in my household!

    • Great for easy weeknight meals
    • Kid friendly as much as it is adult friendly

How to make this ground turkey taco soup on the stove

The method I used to make this taco soup on the stove is simple. In a medium Dutch oven or shallow pan, heat the oil and add the ground turkey. Cook for about 5 minutes or until lightly brown.

Corn and beans added in pot

Add the onions, garlic, and tomatoes and cook for 1 minute. Then add the taco seasoning, stirring occasionally.

Add the beans and corn. Cook for 2 minutes. stirring occasionally.

    Ingredients combined

Immediately add chili powder, cumin, cilantro, and water. Stir. Bring to simmer for 10 minutes.

What to eat with taco soup

I personally love tortillas chips with my ground turkey taco soup. Tortilla chips, which can be purchased at any grocery stores, are perfect with the soup. However, the following Mexican Street Corn,  does pair well with this recipe. But if you are looking for something a little on the lighter side than I suggest pairing with white rice.

    Other soups to try

If you looking for quick soup ideas, my tomato soup, butternut squash soup, broccoli cheddar soup, and the vegetarian corn chowder, are all fairly easy to make, but are extremely delicious and will satisfy everyone in the family, especially the kiddos.

Other Tex Mex Recipes To Try: Mexican Lasagna and Cowboy Caviar

The ultimate comfort food! I wish this was on our stovetop right now. I love corn kernels in soups/stews. Thanks for the tip… I haven’t thought of using taco seasoning for a soup! Delicious.

I really think that you can’t go wrong with a big pot of pinto bean soup, but you’ve taken this to the next delicious level by adding so much flavor and color to this soup. This would be so comforting on a cold night.

What a great idea — taco in soup form. We do love our tacos and combining all of the ingredients in a comfort bowlful is just the thing. It’s rainy today and it would be an ideal time to make a pot of this soup.
