Making homemade red velvet truffles couldn’t be easier and after watching the video tutorial below (in the recipe card), you’ll be filled with excitement to go try them yourself!
Only 3 Ingredients in Red Velvet Truffles
Homemade truffles are the last minute, or not, & easy treat for holidays. You can honestly use any cake you’d like, but why not take a step further with this dark red beauty.
It’s also a perfect way to enjoy some leftover cake that you’ve had wrapped up in the refrigerator and turning it into something spectacular during the holiday season, or for that special Valentine’s Day dinner/dessert.
To begin you only need 3 ingredients: Already baked cake, melted chocolate, and Cream cheese Frosting or cream of your choice.
If by any chance you don’t have the cream cheese frosting on hand, you can also use heavy cream.
- Chocolate: 8 ounces of dark pure chocolate is needed to cover your red velvet truffles. We definitely do not recommend use chocolate chips as they are harder to melt.
Like our air fryer s’mores, we recommend you use chocolate bars. To find Pure chocolate, they are sold in 4-ounce bars in the baking aisle.
Look for milk chocolate as they are sweeter and will complement the red velvet truffles. You may also look for semi-sweet/dark chocolate for extra rich truffles.
2. Cream Cheese Frosting: This our favorite frosting for many reasons. It is homemade. It ads extra flavor to ANY cake, and keep the cake truffle moist. About ½ cup of the frosting will turn these red velvet truffles into the most delicious, and moist truffle you will ever taste. Add more if needed.
3. Red Velvet Bundt Cake: The base of the truffles. Seriously, the flavors in this ultra-soft and velvety cake combined with the cream cheese frosting adds exceptional flavor to your red velvet truffles.
With so few ingredients, it’s essential to follow the bund cake recipe. Seriously, if you stick to the mentioned bund cake recipe and you’ll have major truffle success!

Repeat the steps as necessary. Transfer the truffles to the refrigerator and allow to set for 1-2 hours; best overnight.
Sticky Truffle Tips
Your red velvet truffles will be delicious when you are preparing them. However, they will be very sticky, especially when rolling them. To avoid having sticky hands, consider wearing gloves. You can also coat your hands with cocoa powder.
You cannot mess up this how-to recipe, but sometimes things do not always work in our control. Let me help you find some ways to deal with some of the mishaps you may encounter when making your red velvet truffles.
If The chocolate won’t melt: We highly recommend melting your chocolate in small pieces. If you are having problems melting your chocolate, use about 1 tablespoon of creamer or coconut oil. The coconut oil will also help the chocolate stay shiny. Remember, the finer the chocolate chunks, the quicker the chocolate will melt.
If the chocolate still isn’t melting, use a double boiler. Simply place the heat-proof bowl over a pot of 1 inch of simmering water, but sure to not boil the water, and stir until melted.
The chocolate starts to separate: If the chocolate is too greasy and starts to separate, add a few more chocolate chunks to balance out the grease, and continue melting.
The longer the truffles stay at room temperature, the softer they will become. Best to keep them in a cool place.

Hi Merline, these look wonderful! It looks like you used a Herseys chocolate bar for your melted chocolate? Yours look so shiny and pretty!
Thank you

Hi Christine. Thank you so much. yes, I did use Hershey’s chocolate bar I also added 1 tsp. of olive oil to help it shine. Don’t worry, it will not alter the taste. Only add the oil as needed. You can also add coconut oil too. This will help the chocolate shine plus will make it easier to melt.
Thanks again. Happy Holidays!
