The Different Types of Grits
Grits are a type of cornmeal popular in the southern United States. There are many different types of grits, including white, yellow, and blue. Each type has its unique flavor and texture.
- White grits are the most common type of grit. They are made from white corn and have a mild flavor. White grits are often used as a base for other dishes, such as shrimp and grits.
- Yellow grits are made from yellow corn and have a slightly sweeter flavor than white grits. Yellow grits are often used in casseroles or as a side dish.
- Blue grits are made from blue corn and have a nutty flavor. Blue grits are often used in soups or as a side dish.
Pro Tips
- First, the mushrooms can easily overpower the other flavors in the dish if they are not cooked properly. Ensure to sauté them until they are nicely browned and have released moisture.
- Grits can be tricky to cook; follow the package directions carefully to turn out fluffy and not mushy.
- This dish can be quite rich, so go easy on the cheese and cream if you are watching your calories.
- Cook the grits towards the last 5 minutes of the mushroom chicken time so that your grits do not harden while the other portion of the dish is being cooked.
Storing Options
Store any leftover mushroom chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
