How do I make cinnamon rolls from scratch in my air fryer?
Making air fryer cinnamon rolls is very simple. The cream cheese frosting is creamy, thick, and holds well on cakes, bread, and fruits.
The bread used to make these rolls is the same recipe that’s used to make the Air fryer Milk Buns. Here’s what you’ll need.
- 5 Cups All-Purpose Flour Sifted
- 2 Large Eggs Lightly beaten
- 2 Tbsp. Butter Room Temperature; Plus more to sprinkle
- 2 Tbsp. Sugar Plus 1 Tsp.
- 1 ½ Tsp. Kosher Salt
- 2 ¼ Tsp. Instant Yeast Or 1 Packet
- 1 ¼ Cup Lukewarm Milk
- 1 Tbsp. Milk To mix with the egg Yolk
- 1 Egg Yolk To mix with the 1 tbsp. Milk
Prepare the dough in accordance to the direction on Milk buns post. Simply knead the dough in the KitchenAid mixer.
Let the dough rise. The first initial process takes about 1 hour.
Next, divide dough in half. Spread the dough on a floured surface with a rolling pin. Apply the Cinnamon mixture (see recipe card below).
Roll the dough into a log. Then cut into 8 pieces. Place the rolled pieces in the air fryer basket, press down slightly. Cover with a cleaned towel and allow to rise for 45 minutes in a warm place.
Cook the rolls in the air fryer and allow the rolls to cool once complete.
Cream Cheese Frosting
There is nothing more that screams home like these Cinnamon Rolls. Although we do not make them often, but when we do…you better believe we are enjoying every piece of them.
Not much is needed to make the cream cheese frosting. It’s very simple. Of course, you’ll need the following ingredients listed below:
- 8-ounce cream cheese
- Powder sugar
- Milk – you can use whole milk, 1 or 2%, or any milk of your choice.
After making the cream cheese frosting, you’ll find that it’s not overly sweetened. It has a smooth silky texture, it’s easily spread on breads, cakes, cupcakes, muffins, and fruits.
Add milk as needed to thin out the frosting.
Be sure that the cream cheese is room temperature. This will help with mixing and provide that smooth silky texture.
Tips for making cinnamon rolls in the air fryer
- Not all air fryers are made the same. Some require you to preheat the machine prior to cooking in it, like this Crux air fryer.
- The cream cheese frosting can be stored in an airtight freezer-friendly container for up to a month.
- Spread the rolls apart for even cooking and also to allow the bread to spread/expand.
- Spraying the air fryer is not necessary as the rolls will not stick to the bottom of the basket.
- Depending on the air fryer you have, the temperature and cooking time may vary. I recommend working in 2-minute increments to avoid burning or overcooking the cinnamon rolls.
- When making the cream cheese frosting, be sure to use a block of cream cheese, not cream cheese spread.
Can I reheat cinnamon rolls in air fryer?
Yes, you can reheat the cinnamon rolls for 3 minutes in the air fryer 340 degrees.
Can you put aluminum foil in an air fryer?
Yes, you can put aluminum foil in the air fryer.
