You can have extra seasoned crispy air fryer potato wedges on the table in a matter of minutes, by using just a few affordable ingredients and a handy air fryer.

    vertical view of potato wedges

Perfect as a side dish to a main meal or simply as a snack, seasoned potato wedges are a healthier alternative to fries that couldn’t be easier to make.

Rather than being deep-fried, they are given a light coating of heart-healthy olive oil before being added into the air fryer.

Once you’ve got this recipe down, you can experiment with all different kinds of flavors for a taste to suit every mood!

    Potatoes

For the best texture, you should opt for a waxy potato variety with a thin skin, such as Russets, red potatoes or Yukon Gold.

step by step guide to make seasoned wedges

There’s no need to peel the potatoes, as the skin contributes to the signature crunch and also adds a boost of extra nutrients. Just make sure to give them a good scrub before you start cooking.

It’s important to cut the wedges as evenly as you can, as larger pieces will take longer to cook and you won’t have the same, even crispiness throughout.

You will also need to flip the wedges part way through cooking to ensure that they are done all the way through. If you like your potato wedges extra crispy, simply cook for a few more minutes until they reach the desired texture.

The full recipe with the extract measurements is listed in the recipe card below.

    Seasonings

This recipe is highly adaptable, and you can try almost any spice and herb combination you can think of to coat your crispy potatoes.

step by step guide to make wedges

Paprika and chili powder are great options to give your potatoes a subtle smokiness and kick of heat, while an Italian herb mix will give you a more classic, rustic flavor.

You could try adding some Asian influence and sprinkle on some hot curry powder or even opt for another exotic mix like Moroccan ras el hanout, Haitian Epis, or Jamaican jerk seasoning.

Whichever herbs and spices you choose, don’t forget to add a generous sprinkling of salt and black pepper to really make the flavors sing.

Which Potato Is Best To Use For Wedges?

When it comes to making air fryer potato wedges, we try to stick to Russet potatoes as they work best for making wedges. Russet potatoes cook faster. They also tend to crisp up better than most potatoes.

If you are a fan of Yukon Gold, red potatoes, and even Yellow potatoes, they will work, however, they are softer and will not crisp as much as russet potatoes.

The russet potatoes will be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Do I need to spray my air fryer basket before frying?

When making your air fryer potato wedges, it is helpful to spray your air fryer basket, but it is not necessary. The oil from the potatoes is often sufficient enough to keep the potatoes from sticking or burning.

If you do opt in to spray the air fryer basket, we would recommend using olive oil cooking spray or coconut cooking spray.

How do I know when the potatoes are done?

Your air fryer potato wedges are done when it is tested with a fork and it is inserted with ease through the flesh then to the meat of the potatoes.

It can take up to 25 minutes for the potatoes to finish cooking in the air fryer at 400 degrees. We recommend checking the potatoes in the air fryer midway through and continue cooking to your desired crispiness.

    Serving Suggestions

Potato Wedges are a fantastic side dish to pretty much anything you would serve with fries, including burgers, BBQ and hot sandwiches; making them ideal for an any day side dish.

They also go great with one-pot dishes like chili and mac and cheese, and are a great way to make your meals go a little further.

You could even pair your wedges with this cowboy caviar, cheese and jalapeños to make sharing starter for friends and family.

As a snack, any kind of dipping horseradish sauce would be the perfect accompaniment to these air fryer wedges.

You could try a simple ranch, blue cheese or buffalo, or even just use your favorite ketchup or mayo.

For an extra flourish, some finely chopped fresh parsley makes for a pretty garnish that also adds a hint of herby flavor.
