Start your day with some of the best tea to drink in the morning. From Green tea to earl grey, and from black tea to oolong tea, caffeinated or caffeine-free; for a lot of people, the day starts in the morning with the right hot drink.

    Tea pour into cup

We’ve compiled a list to help guide you make the best choice for your morning hot drink.

Their to-do list includes activities and tasks that start from the morning up to mid-day or evening. As a result, there is a need to start the day on a fresh and energized note and this is where teas come into play.

While many people prefer coffee as their morning beverage, there is equally a sizeable number of people who prefer to start their day with a cup of tea and this article is for them.

This article seeks some of the best teas to drink in the morning for a productive and energized morning.

    Green Tea

First on the list is one of the most popular tea types in the world. Green tea is a popular option and rightfully so, as it possesses helpful amounts of caffeine and L-theanine.

These nutrients help to increase the alertness and focus level, helping you productively start the day.

While green tea contains caffeine, it is important to state that green tea has the least amount of caffeine.

This makes it perfect for people who are looking to reduce their caffeine intake without missing out on the increase in focus and attention that caffeine brings.

Green tea is also known to help with fat burning in the body. Thus, if you are looking to lose weight, taking green tea in the morning before your workout routine helps. However, you should avoid taking green tea on an empty stomach.

    Black Tea

If you are a coffee lover and you are looking for an alternative to coffee without missing out on the sizable amounts of caffeine you get from coffee, black tea is your best option.

The tea has a high caffeine content amongst all tea types. In fact, in the raw form, the black tea leaves have more caffeine than coffee.

The process of brewing beats the caffeine content down.

Apart from the caffeine content, black tea also has a similar flavor to coffee, and this makes it perfect for coffee addicts.

It contains an impressive amount of vitamins and minerals and also helps with sweat evaporation.

Sweat evaporation means that a cup of black tea helps cool the down body in the summer.

Therefore, black tea is a healthy alternative to coffee as it helps with concentration and focuses the same way coffee does.

    Oolong Tea

This is another popular tea type that works perfectly as morning tea. It has almost the same amounts of caffeine as green tea, and this means it is ideal for people who don’t want too much caffeine in their body system.

Oolong tea contains substances that help with metabolism.

As a result of the improved metabolism, the body experiences healthy weight loss, stabilized glucose levels, and low cholesterol.

The tea also eases the digestion process and ensures that stomach discomfort and indigestion don’t ruin your day.

With the amount of caffeine present in oolong tea, you can be assured of mental alertness and concentration in the morning and all through the day when you start the day with a cup of oolong tea.

    Earl Grey

Earl Grey is a flavored version of black tea. This tea is essentially a cup of black tea that contains bergamot oil or bergamot rinds for flavor.

While the caffeine content of Earl Grey is also the same as that of the black tea, the difference between the black tea and the earl grey is that the presence of bergamot flavor provides more energy and immunity than the classic black tea.

The citrus content of the bergamot oil and bergamot rinds in earl grey also helps with digestion and resolves all digestion-related problems.

Finally, anybody suffering from jitters and anxiety will find earl grey helpful as it does a great work of calming people down.

    White Tea

If you are looking for a tea that provides a fruity flavor and natural sweetness for your wake-up experience, white tea remains the best option.

The white tea also contains almost the same caffeine and L-theanine content as the green tea.

The combination of L-theanine and Caffeine in the white tea helps improve the cognitive ability of drinkers and puts them in a focus and productive mode for the day.

Thus, if you are interested in a productive mood, performance, and mental capacity, a cup of white tea for the morning remains the best option.

    Pu Erh Tea

Some people don’t mind a cup of tea before or after a cup of coffee. While this is not a problem in itself, the combined amount of caffeine in both beverages tends to portend a health problem for this set of people.

However, with the Pu Erh Tea, this problem gets solved.

The Pu Erh Tea is a tea type that has very little or zero caffeine content. Therefore, you can take this tea after a cup of coffee in the morning without spiking up the caffeine present in your body.

However, despite its low caffeine content, the tea is very energizing and is perfect for removing any sign of drowsiness or sleepiness in the morning.

If you are also feeling chilly on a winter morning, a cup of Pu Erh Tea helps resolve these chills and provides some warmth for the morning.

    Kombucha

This is another low caffeinated tea that helps you start your day on a bright note.

The tea is fermented and as a result, has a slightly sweet taste.

Its main health benefit is that it supports gut bacteria and helps with digestion throughout the day. This means that you can go on with your day without worrying about stomach disorders.

Caffeine-Free Teas To Drink In The Morning

Though the mixture above includes a variety of caffeinated and caffeine-free tea, here’s a short list of non-caffeinated teas to drink in the morning.

    • Peppermint tea
    • Rosemary tea
    • Rooibos tea
    • Turmeric tea
    • Tulsi /Holy basil tea
    • Sage tea
    • Ginger tea
    • Lemon tea

Is Coffee Better In The Morning Than Tea?

Depends on who you ask. Coffee has almost twice the amount of caffeine than tea, which will help some people to get the day started, stay focused, and function in the morning.

Whereas for others, coffee can be a little excessive which in term can make one jittery.

If you are not a fan of coffee, but want the boost that it provides, then matcha is a great alternative.

Caffeinated teas will provide you with the boost you need to kickstart your day and hit the ground running.

However, the amount that’s needed depends on you and your ability to function with or without it.  Be mindful that black tea is known to have one of the highest caffeine levels.

A lovely write-up on tea varieties. I am more of a coffee person in the morning, but I prefer tea in the afternoon.
