Haitian Griot Recipe (Fried Jackfruit)

Amazingly delicious Vegan Haitian Griot Recipe that's made with Fried Jackfruit. Fried to a golden perfection.

Ingredients

  • 1 Lbs. Young Green Jackfruit In brine; 12.02 Oz.)
  • ½ Cup Haitian Epis
  • 1 Tsp. Cumin
  • 2 Tsp. Kosher Salt
  • 1 Tsp. Paprika
  • 1 Tsp. Black Pepper
  • Oil For Deep Frying About ½ Quart (or more if needed)

For The Coating

  • 2 Tbsp. Cornstarch
  • 1 Cup All-Purpose Flour

For The Sauce

  • 1 Tbsp. Red Pepper Flakes
  • ¼ Cup Red Bell Peppers Sliced
  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • ¼ Cup Chopped Onions
  • 1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar

Instructions

Frying The Haitian Griot / Fried Jackfruit

  • Remove the jackfruit from the can, drain the liquid. Then transfer to a bowl.

  • Add the Haitian Seasoning. Mix well.

  • Then add the remaining ingredients. Mix well to combine, cover, and marinate for at least 30 minutes. The longer it marinates, the better.

  • In a separate bowl, mix together the cornstarch and flour. Set aside.
    Uncover the meat and coat the in the flour mixture on all sides.
    Heat the oil to 400°

  • Using a webspoon, transfer the meat to the oil carefully. Avoid splatter so you do not get burn.

  • Deep fried to golden perfection. Remove the vegan pork from the  oil when fully cooked to a paper toweled plate and set aside.

Optional Sauce For Coating

  • Using medium size bowl, add the peppers, oil, green onions, and vinegar.

  • Mix well. Then pour over the Vegan pork/griot.

  • Toss to combine. Serve as an appetizer. Enjoy!
