Guys, I made homemade Haitian Peanut Butter! I made this all by myself, in my kitchen, with no one’s help. Just me and my food processor and my peanuts making manba peanut butter. If you are looking for a healthier peanut butter version, then this spicy peanut butter- Haitian style recipe is the one to try.

Savory Thoughts: You attract what you are, not what you want. If you want great, then be great. –Unknown.

If you’re thinking what’s all the excitement for, it’s just peanut butter? Well, my friends, the answer is simple. I usually have to wait for years to enjoy a jar of peanut butter from Haiti. My family and I often wait until someone returns home from Haiti to bring us a jar of peanut butter.

I bet most of you have never had spicy peanut butter before. Don’t worry, until I came to the States, I didn’t realize our peanut butter was actually spicy until I had the American version. I was so used to the taste, I never noticed the extra little kick it has.

Not all Haitian peanut butter is prepared with spicy pepper. It’s based on the region and also at the discretion of the person who is preparing it.
We eat a lot of peanut butter in our home. So I decided to make my own, Haitian-style! It is so much cheaper to prepare your own nut butter, and you know exactly what’s in it.

I enjoy banana with peanut butter or apples and peanut butter. So, if having a banana with peanut butter is your thing then you need to try this spicy nut butter version. It is made with cayenne pepper, peanut oil, unsalted peanuts, and honey. Then all of the ingredients are well combined in the food processor to a creamy texture.

I challenge you to make this nut butter one time- I guarantee you will be hooked on making your own peanut butter 🙂 .

What ingredients are needed to make Healthier Haitian Peanut Butter?

You’ll need unsalted peanuts, peanut oil, cayenne pepper, kosher salt and honey. That’s it!

    • A list photo guide to include peanuts, charred and in the food processor.

How to make traditional Haitian peanut butter?

Traditionally, Haitian peanut butter is made with of course raw peanuts. Then it’s roasted with olive or vegetable oil. Then transferred into a special grinder which grinds it into a smooth texture. Scotch bonnet peppers, a dash of salt, and brown sugar are usually added.

I have modified the traditional version to create this recipe. As stated, cayenne pepper and honey are added as opposed to Scotch bonnet peppers and brown sugar.

    • creamy peanut butter in a food processor to show to how make haitian peanut butter.

This creamy jar of goodness is slightly roasted on the stove until charred. I then transfer it to a food processor and blend it to a creamy texture. It is barely sweet and has a slight kick of heat to provide a magical, sensational taste that makes you want to continue to dip in over and over again. You know the kinds you enjoy with a spoon on a late-night while watching your favorite tv show? That’s the type of sensation I am talking about 🙂

Another way to enjoy this peanut butter is to include it in your breakfast-just add this nut butter on toasted bread and accompany it with my watermelon cucumber juice for a simple, healthy, easy breakfast meal.

I like the fact that this peanut butter is real and it’s made with real ingredients. It takes less than 10 minutes to make. It is different because of the added heat it has. It’s comforting, and not to mention extremely enjoyable. No refined sugar is added.

This homemade Haitian peanut butter is tremendously better than anything I could have expected. I have made and tested this recipe over and over again to make sure it is as satisfying as I first prepared it.

It has a very subtle taste. Definitely not overpowering. And IT IS SOOOOO EASY TO MAKE. It is probably the easiest recipes I have on this site, next to my watermelon blueberry salad.

You absolutely DO NEED to give this a try and I can’t wait to hear of your experience. Please be sure to tag me on Instagram or Facebook so I can see your creation 🙂 and please give it a star rating below!

    Notes

Frequently asked questions to make Haitian Peanut Butter:

    • How long does Haitian homemade peanut butter last? Usually, my peanut butter lasts about 3 months. However, I personally would not exceed 6 months.
    • Can you use the Haitian peanut butter in cookies? Absolutely, be mindful it may give the dough a slight kick from the heat.
    • Which oil is best to use to make homemade Haitian peanut butter? In Haiti, peanut butter is made with either olive oil or vegetable oil. However, for this recipe, I modified the recipe and used 100 percent peanut oil.
    • How long should I roast the peanuts? I roast the peanut for about 2 minutes. The longer you roast the peanuts, the darker the ending result will be as well as the stronger the taste of the peanuts will come through.
